French 5 | 06.04.21 (ft. Caro of @carolina.ldno)

Welcome to the 15th edition of French 5, where I share a glimpse of France through language, places, food and drink, arts and culture, as well as a random fun fact.

In this week’s edition, photographer and French student Caro shares her love for France, a country where she says she was reborn.

A big thank you to Caro for participating in this interview and for sharing her beautiful photos. If you have any feedback or ideas of what you’d like to see or who should be featured, please leave your comment below.

Featuring || Caro of @carolina.ldno

My name is Carolina (@carolina.ldno on Instagram), but you can call me Caro. :) I'm Colombian, raised in Costa Rica and reborn in Paris. A very interesting cultural mix that I love.

I'm a photographer, and a French student. My work goes hand in hand with my passion, so in my free time I also dedicate myself to photography; capturing wonderful places in this beautiful city (Paris).

I arrived in France about four years ago, and since then this country never ceases to amaze me. Besides the Parisian architecture, its atmosphere is one of my favourite things since day one.

01 Language || Flâneur

The term flâneur could be my favourite, as I identify myself a lot with it; it consists of being someone who walks freely through the streets without a set course, open to the possibilities and wonders you can find on the way.

02 Place || La Baie de Somme and Les Quais de la Seine

It is always difficult for me to choose just one place as my favourite, because France as a country or Paris as my base city, has many places to fall in love with.

But my recent favourites are:

- In France: The Baie de Somme is a place little explored by tourists but has incredible places; from villages with Belle Époque architecture to cliffs that will make you feel like you moved to Ireland for a moment.

- For Paris: I would say “les quais de Seine", because it is a place where you escape from the movement of the city to enjoy beautiful views and sunsets from a different perspective.

03 Food & Drink || Macarons and Pink Champagne

French food in general is delicious, but I have a preference for sweet things so I will say macarons and pink champagne are my little gastronomic pleasures. Sorry, croissant!

04 Arts & Culture || L’apéro

Enjoying the "apéro" culture on a beautiful terrace (no matter which French city you are going to visit) is a must. I think it's something that almost all French people do with recurrence (at least once a week), and for me it was something completely new.

05 Fun Fact || Sunset at the Arc de Triomphe

Did you know that twice a year, the sun sets right on the axis of the Arc de Triomphe on the Champs-Elysées?

It is quite a spectacle to see the sun set right behind this monument, and the most curious thing is that this phenomenon was born thanks to a coincidence, since it was not planned by the architect of the monument. This usually occurs on May 10 and August 1 (although it may vary by a few days the date, so it is best to check before the exact dates).

Follow Friday || @lapresqueparisenne

@lapresqueparisienne is a Parisian inspiration that you can't miss. It is the perfect example of a Parisian lifestyle with its romantic style and a touch of melancholy, which I love, and I'm sure will make you dream of Paris.
