Going to a christmas market is one of our favourite holiday traditions. Whereas Gunther grew up going to his local Christmas market in France every year, I only really discovered them during my first French Christmas in 2007. I absolutely loved the experience and knew I would have to make it an annual event.

Luckily for me, the trend (finally!) caught on in some Canadian cities. My hometown of Vancouver and the city of Toronto both launched their annual christmas markets in 2010. And I'm so happy they did! Having spent the last few Christmases between Vancouver, Ontario and France, we've been able to attend at least one market every year.

This year we will be spending our first Christmas à deux in Ontario. To keep up with our traditions and help get us into the holiday spirit, we visited the Toronto Christmas Market earlier this month. The market completely takes over the historic Distillery District in downtown Toronto, which is the perfect backdrop for the little wooden cabins that house the vendors. We spent the day perusing the ornaments, stuffing our faces with bacon mac & cheese, and sampling holiday liqueurs. Needless to say, we are already looking forward to next year's Christmas market in whichever city we wind up.
