Skating on the Rideau Canal

Although Ottawa's sub-zero temperatures weren't conducive to afternoon strolls during our visit, they were perfect for an afternoon skate. Everyone in the city seemed to have that very same thought. The line up for skate rentals was endless, so we decided to skip the wait and walk a couple of kilometers along the frozen waterway. The late afternoon sun shed a salmon-coloured light along the icy edges of the canal. It was quite spectacular. Spending time on the world's largest skateway, with or without skates, is an Ottawa must.
