French 5 | 11.05.21 (ft. Morgan of @bisousmorgan)

Welcome to the 29th edition of French 5, where I share a glimpse of France through language, places, food and drink, arts and culture, as well as a random fun fact.

In this week’s edition, an American who now calls Paris home, Morgan, shares why she loves living in the French Capital and how she got hooked on escargots.

A big thank you to Morgan for sharing her beautiful photos. If you have any feedback or ideas of what you’d like to see or who should be featured, please leave your comment below.

My name is Morgan Hizar. I am 26 years old, from Cincinnati, Ohio, and currently living in Paris since 2018.  I originally moved to Paris without ever even visiting, and quickly fell in love with the architecture, culture, and lifestyle which led me to stay.  Part of the reason I love Paris the most is the abundance of opportunities, as well as the constant challenge.

01 Language || Bisou

My favorite word is "bisou(s)" which means kiss/kisses. I love the way the French use it as a word of love to friends, romantic relationships, kids, etc.

02 Place || Pont Neuf

My favorite place in Paris is Pont Neuf. Of course it is a beautiful location, but I believe the entire location of the bridge has a magic to it.  It is located in the heart of Paris, connecting the left bank and right bank (including one of the islands). It's an idyllic location to watch the sunset, see the Eiffel Tower, and feel the energy of the bustling city.

03 Food & Drink || Escargots

I could list plenty of French foods that I adore, but if I had to narrow it down to a favorite, I think I would choose escargots. Initially I was afraid to try them for my first 8 months living in Paris, but once I finally did, I was hooked! I love the experiences taking an escargot out if the shell and dipping delicious french bread in the garlic sauce after.

04 Arts & Culture || Dining en terrasse

Everyone should experience dining en terrasse at a French cafe. This dining experience is entirely unique to France in a way that similar experiences still cannot match. The iconic terrasse chairs, sitting side-by-side facing the street people watching, and truly taking your time without a server bothering you every few minutes. Choose the French classics like escargots, soup a l'oignon, entrecote, etc paired with a glass of wine for the true French experience.

05 Fun Fact || Smaller than Texas

A fun fact about France is that it's smaller than the state of Texas!  For its size, France has so much to offer both geographically and culturally. From the cliffs in the Normandy region, to Alps, and even the sunshine in the Riviera, there is plenty to see and discover. There is so much to France beyond Paris!

Follow Friday || Sophie of @sophieannenadeau

I've been so lucky to meet many amazing and inspiring French people and Francophiles. My friend Sophie Nadeau is one at top of mind. Originally from England, Sophie consistently shares so much information and history about France that makes me fall more and more in love with the country with each piece.  She takes stunning photos and has an incredible blog rich in content.
